When Nocto gets a message on his Ghost Fax to go to Slimymoor School, he sends in Squibbly to practice his daytime haunting. But Squibbly sleeps through the alarm. He wakes up when the children come back to school in the evening to practice the songs for their school play. But Squibbly cannot scare the children, or the teachers or the cleaners… in fact it’s the other way round! Squibbly is terrified!

Nocto, the ghost, opened his book cupboard.






He pulled out two books and blew the dust off them.






“These are just what I need for Squibbly,” he said.






Squibbly was asleep, as usual.






Nocto was angry. He turned off the tape player.






“It’s time you did some homework,” he said. “You need to improve your howling, shrieking and moaning!”






“If you want to be a scary ghost, you have to practise.”






“Do you remember the Ghost Docs’ song?”






“First I want you to do some howling,” he told Squibbly. “I’ll come back in an hour to test you!”






Squibbly opened one of the books. He looked for the easiest howl.






None of them looked very easy. But he chose one and started to howl.






Then Squibbly had a brilliant idea.






He looked through his tapes.






He found one that was blank.






He put it in the tape player.






He pressed the record button.






Then he went back to his howling.

Nocto was busy polishing the ghost scooter.






He could hear Squibbly moaning and howling.






“He’s not trying very hard,” thought Nocto.






He stopped polishing and went into the attic.






He wasn’t very pleased with what he saw.






Squibbly had recorded his own howls. Now he was playing back the tape while he had another sleep.






Nocto turned off the tape player. Squibbly woke up with a start.






He was just about to give Squibbly a good talking to when …






“It’s my Ghostfax!” said Nocto. “Now where did I put it?” Nocto was always losing things.






He went through all the pockets of his ghostsuit. He looked in things.






He looked under things.











At last he found it.

The Ghostfax was already printing a message.
