My connection with angels

Everyone seems to have a day, a date, a week or maybe some special occasion when angels come into their lives. It might be that a friend buys them a book about angels or perhaps a book falls off a shelf at their feet. Maybe for you this book is the first time you’ve taken an interest in angels, or maybe you had an experience personally or watched a television programme about guardian angels. Something or someone triggers our interest. When the time is right we discover angels, or maybe they draw attention to themselves so that we can see they are around.

For me, this interest has long bordered on the obsessive, but that’s a whole other story … Oh, go on then, I’ll explain briefly, although I have written about my own angelic story previously, so do forgive me if you’ve read about this before – I’ll keep it brief! I was watching a day-time chat show on TV and the guest was talking about angels. While I was watching the show I recalled an experience of my own that happened around the age of five. I was on a family holiday and floating around in the sea (wearing a swimming aid), and I found myself being pulled further and further out in the water. I realised I could no longer touch the seabed and was unable to get myself back to shore. A voice in my head suggested that if I wanted to die I could; alternatively, ‘they’ would help me back to shore. I chose life and within no time at all found that I was being pushed back to shore with little help from me (a non-swimmer). That was the voice of an angel. An angel who saved my life. In fact, An Angel Saved My Life became the title of one of my books on the subject, and I haven’t looked back since.

That was my first experience, and as I watched television that day the whole memory flooded back to me. Over the course of the next week or two I did a lot of research into the phenomena and had many more experiences after that. It was in the early days of home computers and the internet and I was lucky enough to be the only one of my friends to have access to both. I created a website, started collecting other people’s experiences and the rest, as they say, is history. Sharing stories of angels became my life, and since that time I’ve written piles and piles of books on the subject; I write an angel column (in the UK magazine Take a Break’s Fate & Fortune) and I’ve also published hundreds of articles on the subject.

I’ve appeared as a guest on several hundred radio shows (both in the UK and abroad) and been a regular guest on many more TV shows to talk about my favourite subject: angels and the afterlife! The subject continues to excite me. You’ll find my articles all over the internet as well as features and interviews I’ve done in magazines and newspapers, both in the UK and around the world. I’ve met and worked with many famous names and often get recognised myself (which is always thrilling). If you spot me, do pop over and say hello! I’ve had people run across the street because they recognise me; others have spotted me in supermarket queues, and once in a public toilet (no, I don’t sign autographs in the toilet, but wait until I leave the facilities and I’ll happily chat!).

In the early days of my career I met, interviewed (for magazines) and worked with some of the best-known people in the business. One of my favourites was the late Colin Fry. Colin was a spiritual medium whom many of you will have heard of. His television series 6ixth Sense with Colin Fry was shown all over the world, with episodes repeated over and over on various channels. He went on to film programmes with other well-known names in the psychic world (friends of his and mine), including Derek Acorah, Tony Stockwell and T.J. (Tracy) Higgs.

I knew Colin from the earliest days. Although he was a big believer in spirits, I was never too sure if he believed in angels. He used to joke about them a lot. When he became seriously ill he thanked people for their best wishes and healing but asked them to stop sending over angels because he was always having to clean up the feathers they left behind! White feathers, of course, are a calling card of the angels so I thought his joke was funny. He was a wonderful friend and helped me so much with my career. He was always supportive. It would be remiss of me not to mention him in this book.

As I write this, it is less than a week since Colin’s funeral. He passed away from lung cancer and even though we kept in touch and I knew how ill he was, it still came as a terrible shock when he passed away. Colin texted me just a few short days before he passed away. He gave permission for his message to be published after his death. Here is a small extract from his private communication:

… I am contacting a few people privately away from the Facebook public profiles. I guess these are my thank-you messages to the people who have touched my life and expressed friendship to me … The truth is, Jacky, I am not in the slightest frightened and if it is God’s will I am ready to go now. I just wanted you to be one of those special people who I wanted to thank for having been in my life …

I thought it was typical of Colin that in his final days he was thinking of others and reaching out one last time. I sent him a lengthy reply, telling him what a great friend he had been and promising that I wouldn’t let people forget him. I told him how well he had fulfilled his mission here on earth in helping to share the important message that physical death is not the end of life, just the end of life as we know it. Life continues on the other side, and Colin stood on the stage and TV all over the world to spread this message. The consciousness of the soul continues to exist. Colin was able to pick up messages from the deceased family members of his audience and share mind-blowing proof that there is so much more to life!

Ironically, his final message to me was, ‘… within the next few days, unless the angels take me sooner (which is fine), I will go on to the next stage of pain control and I may not be awake very much so wanted to get my personal message out …’ So maybe, in the end, he did believe in angels. I know that at the end of his life as he crossed from earth into the heavenly dimensions he would have been collected by angels. I gave him permission to come back and chat to me (he did; a simple private message). I know he will continue to reach out to his many family and friends as and when he can.

Here is a tribute to Colin that I posted on the internet. It was seen by over 85,000 people and hundreds of his fans posted tributes underneath.

RIP Colin Fry

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that my dear friend, TV medium Colin Fry, died last night.

I was lucky enough to have met Colin in his early years on TV and we kept in contact after that. I interviewed him for several magazines … he always shared way more than I felt I could print! He used to forget I was writing for a magazine and we’d chat away … Just like he would say in his stage shows, I would say to him, ‘I can’t say that!!’ He always made me laugh.

I remember when I went with my husband John to watch him on stage … he spotted me up on the balcony above the stage. He turned to the 2,000-strong audience and said, ‘That’s my friend Jacky up there!’ He invited us back the following night as his guests, but I forgot to turn my phone off properly in the break, and when my phone rang out in the second half you could hear it very clearly. I tried to scoop it under the seat, and when that didn’t work and I tried desperately to switch it off – it took ages. Every face in the audience turned to me and Colin made a joke about ‘someone’s spirit friend Nokia ringing from the other side’. I expect he had to use that line a lot, but I realised I’d gone from being his dear friend one night to the annoying woman with the phone the next!

He was born in 1962, the same year as me (I know you are working that out now!). His Wikipedia page says, ‘… Colin Fry hosted a number of television programmes dealing with the supernatural, including Most Haunted, Psychic Private Eyes and 6ixth Sense with Colin Fry, produced by Living TV …’

He entered the living rooms of thousands and thousands of people around the world. He taught a whole generation of people that death is not the end, and we are grateful for that.






I saw him for the final time just a few weeks ago. He came to a venue in Cornwall, close to my home. My friend (TV psychic) Barrie John was working on stage with Colin and we arranged my visit as a surprise. I’ll never forget the look on Colin’s face as I walked through the door. It was wonderful and we were able to have a final hug and chat for a few moments (see photo).

He texted me just a few days ago. It was his goodbye message to friends. I felt privileged to have been in that small group. Even then I was amazed that he was thinking of others in his final few days on earth. It gave me a wonderful opportunity to tell him in person how much he meant to me.

Goodbye, darling. I will miss you very much. You have left a big hole in the heart of the world and we will mourn your loss for a very long time. You touched the hearts of millions in a way that you will never know. Thank you for your service.

I’m sure this dear man who did so much to help others will have found his angels on the other side, and maybe in heaven he will no longer have to vacuum up the feathers they leave behind! He was a special man who was kind enough to endorse my first angel book. He was always very supportive of my work. When I met him that final time I promised I would mention him in my next book. Have you experienced angels in your life? Have you had moments of unexplainable phenomena? Many of us have. Angels can appear in very real dreams or through a series of ‘coincidences’. They bring signs and even touch us physically. Many have felt the urge to change their regular routine and found that their life was saved as a result of their action. Sometimes angels can bring an urgent voice that appears inside your head. That voice might lead you to safety or show you a better or safer path ahead. You may have heard numerous and dramatic stories of angels saving lives – or at least read about them in books or heard of them on television or in the national press. Every time I do a radio interview, the phone lines are buzzing with people of all ages who want to share their experiences, too. I’ve chatted on-air, late into the night, to tough truck drivers who are happy to talk about their angelic encounters. Angels aren’t the pink fluffy figurines we hang on our Christmas trees. Angels are majestic light beings whose power knows no bounds; their stories can be mind-blowing but at the same time encounters with them can be subtle and comforting. Sometimes we are left wondering, What was that? Or, What just happened there? They leave a mysterious question mark in the air.

But angels can bring us other gifts on occasion, too. I myself have received healing at the hands of angels (a little pain relief for toothache, for example). They can also bring us other gifts of the sort that don’t come wrapped in boxes with a bow on top. Are these angels of the winged variety? Or perhaps they work through our deceased loved ones as in this case below.

A few years ago, my hubby pulled a muscle in his back and was in agony. He was in so much pain that he found it very difficult to get comfortable and an even bigger challenge to get to sleep. One particular Sunday afternoon he lay on the living-room floor and told me later that he called to my deceased father to help the pain go away. A few minutes after saying this he fell asleep. He awoke to no pain whatsoever! He is certainly a believer now!

Carol told me that her husband relayed the story to her afterwards, but she and her mother were not surprised. They’d already experienced strange paranormal experiences at the house (although she didn’t elaborate). Someone had already been trying to make their presence known, it seems!

Have you ever felt a loving presence around you or in your home? Remember that if you are poorly or in pain, it’s okay to ask the angels to assist you, although you may feel more comfortable asking a deceased loved one to help. No doubt they will bring healing angels with them!

Many believe that their angels have appeared to them in photographs. I have seen unexpected balls of light in my own photographs from time to time, sometimes after I have asked for proof that there is ‘something else’ out there. These balls of light, or ‘orbs’ as many call them, are a regular feature in ghost hunters’ photographs. After examining my own photographs, I know that some of these orbs are caused by moisture in the air and others will be dust, which picks up the light, creating a speck of light on the image. Some are probably light flares (a reflection from a nearby lamp, or the sun itself, for example). Others have no earthly explanation that I can think of. Are they angels? Who knows? What do you think of this story?

I’ve been meaning to write to you. I think about it whenever I finish one of your books. After what happened on Thursday I decided that this time I had to contact you, so to start my story, I am a strong believer in the spirit world. My son got himself into a lot of trouble, and on the day of court all his family were waiting outside when he was called in for the verdict. Terrified, I just ran out to the nearest church. I found a little side altar and I found myself crying a lot. But then I was no longer alone; I felt a hand on my shoulder and as I looked up I saw a very old lady. She leant forward and spoke into my ear. She told me that everything would be okay for me, and then said, ‘God bless’ before she left my side.

As I looked up again there was no sign of her. The church was now empty. Almost immediately, the door opened and my son came in with my husband. Just as the lady had said, everything was okay.

Then another time I felt their presence again, and even though it was a very simple thing it really helped me. I was sitting up at the table, feeling very sorry for myself, when I noticed a feather float down from the ceiling. A few days later it happened again. I was sitting on a bus and I stood up and let a lady go in front of me. I thought I saw something drift down before me, but thought it was nothing. Then, when I went to open my handbag, I noticed a tiny white feather on top of my bag!

Yesterday my granddaughter was dressed up for World Book Day at school. I was taking a picture of her with her baby sister, and I could not believe what I could see – well, to be honest I did think my camera might be broken – there was an orb at the side of her in the shot. I was shocked, but my daughter took the same picture on her phone and it was on hers, too. We took other pictures around the room and nothing appeared, then when we moved back to the children again we spotted two orbs (one was smaller and fainter). They stayed around for a while!

As well as these, I’ve had a few things happen to me since my mum and dad died. It was a while ago, and the experiences were close together. I once saw my grandma after she passed over and know that she is around me a lot, too. I have been asking my angels and deceased loved ones to let me know they are around us more.

That’s pretty good advice actually. If you ask for signs you are more likely to receive them. Both your angels and deceased loved ones don’t want to frighten you in any way. Seeing a full-blown outline of an angel or a loved one who has died would be pretty terrifying in normal circumstances. They do try to be subtle! Here is another photograph experience.

On the afternoon of 9 February 2007 I went to St Mary the Virgin C of E Church in Banham, Norfolk, to lay down some flowers at the grave site of a good friend that had died a couple of years ago. His death was very tragic. Whilst visiting the grave site my mum and I decided to go into the church to see the interior and take some photos. I took several photos of the church from the inside; two of the windowpanes, one at an angle of the pews and, last but not least, one from the altar pointing towards the church organ. At the time of taking the photos from the altar facing the organ, I was telling my mum about my friend’s funeral and what had taken place that day. After spending several minutes in the church, nothing unusual appeared through the lens.

Then, after leaving the church, we headed down to one of the local pubs to have a drink and some lunch. Minutes after getting into the pub and having a drink I decided to go through all the pictures I had taken. Much to my surprise I came across something strange in one photo; it took me a moment to acknowledge what I could see. A mist-like fog had appeared to the right of the photo! I remember as I took it I explained to Mum that this had been where the coffin had been placed throughout the funeral. I thought straight away, Could this be a connection to him?
